Fertilization & Soil Management

Tree health begins below ground in the soil. Trees need nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, and trace elements like iron and magnesium to maintain their health. When one or more of those elements is missing from the soil, in low concentrations, or in a form trees can't use, they need to be replaced. We fertilize to replace those nutrients, but our professional arborists are careful to replace only the nutrients that are needed. Applying just the right amount of fertilizer keeps trees healthy. Applying too much can actually make trees more attractive to certain pests, and excess elements can leach into groundwater.

Insect & Disease Management

Early diagnosis and treament of insects and diseases are essential. We are often able to diagnose problems before they become apparent to the untrained eye. We can then prescribe less aggressive, more environmentally-friendly treatment, which also may reduce treatment costs. Prevention is the best cure. Insects and diseases often bypass healthy trees and attack those under stress.

Stressed Tree Management

Planning is the key to managing tree stress. That begins with selecting the right trees for the right spots, protecting them during construction and preventing soil compaction. Many stress problems begin in the roots, but the symptoms are seen in the crown. We are experienced at looking down as well as up.

Construction Damage Abatement

Trees add to property value, but it is necessary to select only the healthiest trees to be saved during construction, and then take the necessary precautions to assure that the soil beneath them is not compacted or disturbed, and they are not damaged by construction equipment.
