Arbor Care

PruningPruning

Knowing just how to properly prune a tree begins with knowledge of tree biology and physiology. Knowing when to prune a tree is also important. We prune only for a specific purpose, such as to remove dead, dying, diseased, crossing or rubbing branches; to reduce the height (although we never top trees); to raise the crown height; or to thin the crown. The saying goes, "A properly pruned tree is often a job unnoticed." That's the way we prune.

Cabling & BracingCabling & Bracing

Nearly all trees are beautiful, but some are not structurally sound. As narrowly forked branches grow, they compete for the same space, and the weaker one will eventually lose. Heavy limbs can be weak, and break under their own weight. We can save these beautiful trees from becoming eyesores simply by installing a support system consisting of steel rods through the weak forks and steel cables up in the crown.

Lightning ProtectionLightning Protection

Trees often tower above everything on a property, making them a lightning rod. We suggest protecting your valuable and special trees with a system of lighting rods and grounding cables.

Tree RemovalRemoval

Tree removal is our treatment of last resort. But, when a tree dies, is heavily damaged, or blocks views and causes accidents, removal is necessary. We are equipped to safety take down trees of any size in even the tightest location. This includes removal of the stump and renewal of the site.

Tree Health

Fertilization & Soil ManagementFertilization & Soil Management

Tree health begins below ground in the soil. Trees need nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, and trace elements like iron and magnesium to maintain their health. When one or more of those elements is missing from the soil, in low concentrations, or in a form trees can't use, they need to be replaced. We fertilize to replace those nutrients, but our professional arborists are careful to replace only the nutrients that are needed. Applying just the right amount of fertilizer keeps trees healthy. Applying too much can actually make trees more attractive to certain pests, and excess elements can leach into groundwater.

Insect & Disease ManagementInsect & Disease Management

Early diagnosis and treament of insects and diseases are essential. We are often able to diagnose problems before they become apparent to the untrained eye. We can then prescribe less aggressive, more environmentally-friendly treatment, which also may reduce treatment costs. Prevention is the best cure. Insects and diseases often bypass healthy trees and attack those under stress.

Stressed Tree ManagementStressed Tree Management

Planning is the key to managing tree stress. That begins with selecting the right trees for the right spots, protecting them during construction and preventing soil compaction. Many stress problems begin in the roots, but the symptoms are seen in the crown. We are experienced at looking down as well as up.

Construction Damage AbatementConstruction Damage Abatement

Trees add to property value, but it is necessary to select only the healthiest trees to be saved during construction, and then take the necessary precautions to assure that the soil beneath them is not compacted or disturbed, and they are not damaged by construction equipment. We work with landscape architects and builders to insure that your trees are protected during construction. Construction damage problems often do not show up immediately. Rather, they surprise you years later when there is little or no recourse. That's why you need our professioinal input when planning construction around trees.
